About Thingalyzer

Thingalyzer is a web application designed to collate, associate and explore everyone’s favourite things. It was designed to interoperate with Artefact H10515, an interactive sculpture at the Powerhouse Museum but it can also operate entirely independently and may also be used to create future art projects.

How to use Thingalyzer

Using Thingalyzer is easy. Just answer a few simple questions and you are away. Start by typing the names of your favourite things. If you have some favourite photos in a collection you can scan and upload them later, or, if you’ve already put them online somewhere then just tell us where.

How Thingalyzer works

Thingalyzer is programmed in Python using the Django framework. It utilises a number of public APIs collate, curate and present data about your favourite things. Thingalyzer uses Freebase and Textwise for term extraction, Flickr for connecting up images, Freebase, and Dict.org for movies, books and dictionary lookups. We even connect to public collections at the Powerhouse Museum and National Library of Australia . We use IP Info db for location resolution.

How Thingalyzer feeds Artefact H10515

Thingalyzer has its own API (application programming interface) which allows Artefact H10515 to periodically request new sets of data from it.
